Unimed-Rio is a medical cooperative that’s been in business for 38 years and has more than 770 thousand customers, making it the leader in the health plan market in Rio de Janeiro. Founded and managed by doctors seeking better conditions for the practice of medicine, it seeks to provide the highest excellence in service for the largest possible number of people.
To take care of so many lives, Unimed-Rio’s cooperative has more than 5,300 doctors with 50 different specialties who are partners in the company and are located throughout all the regions of the city. Nationally, the Unimed system provides coverage for 30% of plan holders in Brazil.
CHALLENGE
To improve the management of costs and expenses and to get to know them in greater detail, which is fundamental to sustaining Unimed-Rio’s business. To seek cost reductions through more advanced and accurate analyses of this business’s characteristics.
SOLUTION
MyABCM’s ABC costing program was chosen to meet these expectations technically and financially. Now we can elaborate detailed analyses of all types of cost objects, covering all the company’s activities, and seek total unit costs that are very close to the business reality.
RESULTS
The ABC costing system offered by MyABCM has allowed us to perform a very specific mapping of our most relevant business costs, identifying precisely all the costs generated by this process. The implementation of the ABC methodology has created a new commitment to improve the control of our activities, and now we intend to disseminate these gains generated by this application throughout the entire company to change our culture in every area.
